This article is based upon formerly secret documents that were declassified without fanfare and published by the U.S. Department of State in 2006, but apparently gathered the proverbial dust on the shelves since then — unnoticed until now by prying journalistic eyes.

In Sept., 1970 Imelda Marcos, then the First Lady of the Philippines, feared that domestic political opposition threatened plans by her husband, President Ferdinand Marcos, to revise the Philippine constitution and thus extend his term in office, which would otherwise lapse in 1973. When Mrs. Marcos flew to Washington, D.C. that Sept., she was able to obtain a private audience in the White House with U.S. President Richard Nixon.

The First Lady also summoned Director of Central Intelligence Richard Helms to her suite in the Madison Hotel — the presidential suite. The declassified State Department and White House documents reveal that in her Sept. 22 private meetings with Nixon and Helms, Mrs. Marcos asked for some $23 million in CIA covert funding. The money was to be used to buy political support to elect pro-Marcos delegates to the Constitutional Convention two months later.

Mrs. Marcos these days is perceived in the public mind as a comic figure, thanks to her famous love of expensive shoes and jewelry. But in her prime, the politically ambitious First Lady was considered a woman with an independent power base who was accordingly treated with respect by heads of state.

Imelda Marcos, who turns 81 on July 2, has just been elected to the Philippine congress, having replaced her son, Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, who was elected to the senate in the May 10 elections. Bongbong, 52, earned honors at Oxford and an advanced degree from the Wharton business school, and could be poised to run for president in the 2016 elections. Bongbong’s elder sister, Imee Marcos, 56, is the newly elected governor of Ilocos Norte.

Then, Mrs. Marcos was not content to seek only CIA assistance. Before going on to Washington, she had reached out to a higher authority. She flew to Italy where she had a private audience with Pope Paul VI. In that meeting, the First Lady vented her frustrations with internal political opposition from the Catholic Church in Manila, specially, she complained, from the liberal Jesuits. What could His Holiness do to help?

These revelations are hardly likely to be regarded as ancient history. This is because the same Philippine family dynasties that have been jockeying for power for more than four decades are still at it — while the same controversies involving possible revision of the country’s constitution that Imelda Marcos raised in 1970 are still the stuff of current headlines in Manila.

And beyond the little slice of history, there is a broader context for the story. This week the Philippines — which doesn’t get much press beyond Asia — will be in the international headlines. On Wednesday, Filipinos will inaugurate a new president. — marking another opportunity for a fresh start that would get their laggard economy moving in the right direction. It is conceivable — if not likely — that the Philippines could, at long last, be primed to become another Asian tiger, or perhaps a tiger-cub economy.

Plea for ‘crash program’

The fact that Imelda and her husband were presiding over their country’s long economic decline was hardly on Imelda Marcos’s mind back in Sept., 1970. When she flew to Washington that month, the First Lady was thinking in terms of how to dominate the political opposition.

According to a well-received 1988 biography entitled “Imelda: Steel Butterfly of the Philippines,” written by prize-winning journalist Katherine Ellison, Nixon “had acknowledged his guest’s stature by inviting her to stay at Blair House, the White House guest quarters usually reserved for visiting chiefs of state.” But as the Blair House was undergoing renovations, Nixon ended up putting Mrs. Marcos in the Madison’s presidential suite, “where her bill for five days came to $1,068.87, paid for by the U.S. State Department.”

The official documents relating to Mrs. Marcos’s Sept., 1970 trip to Washington, D.C. are contained in a 744-page volume published four years ago by the State Department, as part of its ongoing historical “Foreign Relations of the United States” series. Tucked away in the section of the book that deals with the official U.S.-Philippine diplomatic record is a memorandum of a “conversation between the Director of Central Intelligence and Madam Imelda Marcos, Wife of the Philippines President.” The DCI was Richard Helms. The researchers had found the Helms document in the intelligence files of the National Security Council in Richard Nixon’s White House. It had been classified Secret; Eyes Only.

The memorandum notes that U.S. ambassador to the Philippines Henry Byroade and his special assistant, James Rafferty, “made the introductions” to Helms and an unnamed CIA officer, “and then withdrew” from the suite. In those days, Byroade was known to be close to Ferdinand Marcos, and Rafferty was reputed to be a close associate-of — and even somewhat of a political fixer for — the First Lady.

The CIA officials’ meeting with Mrs. Marcos in her suite at the Madison was on Sept. 22, 1970, and lasted 35 minutes. Earlier that day, the First Lady had met in the White House with Nixon and his national security adviser, Henry Kissinger, although “no other record” of that meeting “has been found,” a footnote in the Helms’ memorandum reported. But the CIA’s memo clearly relates what was on Mrs. Marcos’s mind, as she explained it to the American spymasters.

“Madam Marcos began her presentation by drawing attention to the forthcoming 10 November 1970 elections for delegates to a constitutional convention in the Philippines, planned for June-July 1971,” the memo related. “She said socialist movements sponsored by certain lay and clerical elements in the Catholic Church, particularly the Jesuits, and some Communist fronts are planning to contest administration candidates in the election.”

The CIA memo explained Mrs. Marcos’ pitch: “She believes that the Marcos Administration could lose the election by default unless a crash program is organized to help it win. She noted that the Church has already picked candidates, either priests or lay persons, for each election district. Should those groups succeed in achieving their objectives, it would change the form of government in the Philippines to Socialism or Communism, with only a few people realizing what the real consequences would be. She underscored her view that Philippine democracy is viable but will not survive unless the United States helps the Marcos Administration through this difficult period.”

The memo also related that Mrs. Marcos told Helms that “the Philippines is a child of the U.S. and illustrated this point by describing Vietnam as a French baby, Malaysia as an English baby, and Thailand as everybody’s baby.” In Asia, the First Lady asserted, “one’s creditability (sic) is not measured by how one treats a friend, but how one treats his children.” In those days, Mrs. Marcos let it be known that she considered herself a sort-of political mother to Filipinos; forty years later she refers to herself as her country’s grandmother.

When Helms asked what she meant by a crash CIA program, Mrs. Marcos rolled off the numbers, the memo relates: “Madam Marcos then said funding the election at the barrio level would mean 4,000 pesos for 35,000 barrios and also asked for more arms and helicopters to enable President Marcos to capture a fourth HUK leader, Commander Dante.”

HUK is the acronym for Philippine communist revolutionary forces that the CIA had first worked against in the 1950s. By the late 1960s, the HUK communists had morphed into what is still called the New People’s Army, although the CIA memo writer had not caught up to the distinction. In any event, the declassified documents do not elaborate further on the request for CIA help in capturing Commander Dante, the alias for Bernabe Buscayno, who would remain at large for several more years.

No basis for Imelda’s fears

Helms referred the First Lady’s request to the so-called 40 Committee, which met in the White House on Sept. 25, 1970. Then chaired by Henry Kissinger, the committee was comprised of high-level U.S. security officials who recommended covert actions to the president. Notes from the committee meeting expressed no reservations on moral grounds. Covert CIA support for politicians around the world, including the Philippines, was by then a venerable tradition.

In Sept., 1970 Nixon and Kissinger were busy ordering the CIA’s Helms to do what he could to prevent the election in Chile of leftist Salvador Allende (those efforts failed, but President Allende was subsequently ousted by his own military in a coup three years later, and committed suicide).

The 40 Committee referred the Marcos request to the State Department, for a more detailed analysis. The diplomats at Foggy Bottom quickly concluded that there was no basis for the First Lady’s fears that leftists would be able to dominate the Constitutional Convention: “Mrs. Marcos is the only person who professes to believe that the Philippine Constitutional Convention will be controlled by leftist elements. In fact, there are few observers who believe it will not be controlled by President and Mrs. Marcos.”

When the secret White House covert-actions committee met again on Oct. 6, it decided to reject the First Lady’s request. Mrs. Marcos had basically been “throwing curve balls around a leftist threat to the Constitutional Convention,” the committee’s minutes noted.

The formerly secret minutes from the Oct. 6 White House meeting also observed that President Marcos himself, who had been giving his wife considerable political leeway, felt that this time, she had gone too far. “It was also noted that Marcos was allegedly angered by his wife’s freewheeling; none of this had come directly from him and she might be launching personal political ambitions,” the official 40 Committee minutes reported. The Philippine strongman, the document added pointedly, although “no neophyte at feeding at our trough — had not yet asked for a peso.”

Papal visit

Although it was reported at the time that Mrs. Marcos had had a private audience with Pope Paul VI earlier in Sept., 1970, what was said behind the closed doors, to my best knowledge, has never before been reported. Richard Helms’ minutes of his Sept. 22 meeting in the Madison’s presidential suite give the gist of how the First Lady reported the meeting to the CIA. According to Helms’ notes, Mrs. Marcos’s papal visit “was not for the purpose of piety but to persuade him to make his visit to the Philippines in the third week of November, which would be after the election, to prevent the Catholic church in the Philippines from using his visit to further its political ambitions.”

According to Helms’ memo, Imelda Marcos reported that she had been only partly successful in persuading the Pope to give her some political cover: “She said the Pope suggested prayer as a possible answer but he also agreed to delay his visit.”

Postscript:

Pope Paul VI kept his word to Mrs. Marcos, as the Con-con elections of Nov. 10, 1970 preceded the two-day papal visit to Manila from Nov. 27-29. That visit made a little unintended history itself. Upon his arrival at the Manila airport, the Pope was attacked by a disturbed 35-year old Bolivian painter who wielded a Malay kris dagger. The Marcoses claimed that the knife was deflected by a swift presidential karate chop from an alert President Marcos, a version that was at variance with other accounts at the time, including the Vatican’s.

True to the American predictions, the Marcoses were able to dominate the Con-con, which met in 1971, and which was marked by persistent efforts to amend the country’s constitution to enable President Marcos to remain in office. While there were many reports at the time that the president and his wife had used widespread bribery to influence the delegates, the details of what actually transpired remain elusive (as to the facts behind so many Philippine scandals.”

In any event, President Marcos finally decided to remain in power by declaring martial law in Sept., 1972. He remained in office until he was deposed by Cory Aquino’s People Power demonstrations in 1986 — which were given powerful assistance from the same Catholic Church forces that Imelda Marcos had long complained about.

In 1977, President Marcos finally succeeded in capturing and jailing communist chief Bernabe Buscayno, a.k.a. Commander Dante. Buscayno later rejected violence, and was released in 1986 by Cory Aquino.

During the last several years, President Arroyo and her political allies have made headlines with their persistent efforts to convene another Constitutional Convention — with most of the controversy once again turning on fears of a hidden presidential agenda. But unlike Marcos, President Arroyo was not politically strong enough to impose martial law, and on Wednesday will step down from her office peaceably.

Half-way through 2010, both the Marcoses and the Aquinos are back in power — while their country remains poor.

The Marcos family declined requests for comment.

Marcos and the Jesuit ‘Subversives’

The community of 8,000 American Jesuits is caught in profound internal ferment …

THE HEADLINE in the afternoon daily caught one’s startled eye: Marcos Tags Jesuits on Revolt, and the reader’s instinctive reaction was that the President was giving the SJs more credit than they deserved.

“President Marcos today accused the Jesuits of inciting revolution in the Philippines,” the report began, bylined by a veteran Malacañang reporter. “Mr. Marcos hurled the accusation during a conference with newsmen this morning (March 2), adding that he will not countenance the ‘continued acts of rebellion’ by the religious order.’ The story was substantially duplicated in the other afternoon paper, and its lead was even more dramatic: Marcos declared today an open war against the Jesuits…

The Malacañang ploy however backfired, and reaction set in favor of the Jesuits. The following morning the Palace issued a blanket denial of the reports. Its tone was typically self-serving and innocucus:

“The President believes that the Jesuits in the Philippines are fully aware of the separation between the church and the state and will not risk being publicly condemned for interference in the affairs of government.”

Two leading Jesuit officials immediately took up the cudgels for their order. The reaction of Fr. Horacio de la Costa, provincial superior of the Society, was a model of understatement: “If the President has been correctly reported as saying what he did, I would like to state, with all due respect, that he must have been misinformed …

“As for interfering with the affairs of the state, I would simply say that those of us who are Filipinos believe that, as citizens of a free country, we have the right, and occasionally the duty, to speak our minds on what we believe to be the state of the nation, and how we believe that state can be improved to provide justice and a better life for all.”

The rejoinder of Fr. Pacifico Ortiz, Ateneo president, was more blunt: “It would be a tragedy which could bring us even nearer to revolution if no persons or institutions in this land could speak the truth about the state of the nation as he sees it without being branded as inciters of revolution.

“If we have come to such a pass, as indeed this accusation of the President might lead us to believe, then thought-control and fascism are just around the corner.”

An original impression of newsmen was that the President’s remarks had been printed in one of those “onion skin press releases.” In the trade, this means that a reporter’s contacts give him some “background” material, printed on onion-skin paper, “not for attribution.” The real story, however, subsequently filtered out to the press. Marcos had let down his guard, and revealed his feelings during an informal afternoon chat with newsmen while playing golf at the Palace greens.

The radicals were understandably annoyed, feeling that the President had conferred on the Jesuits a badge of honor reserved exclusively for their own militant groups. Those who know the Jesuits well were amused: very flattering really, but we haven’t reached that stage yet and we probably never will, unless we’re driven to it.

There may be one or two far-out radicals among the SJs, but the truth is that most of them have come out for peaceful reforms. And if only for this reason, they constitute no immediate, violent threat to men like Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Why FM Dislikes the Jesuits

The Jesuits for years now have been crying out for reforms, warning that the alternative would be a bloody revolution. This call naturally has not endeared them to the One in Power (and we do not mean the other world), it being a reflection on his Administration.

The Presidential distaste surfaced for all to see during the opening of the Seventh Congress, when Marcos openly seewled while Fr. Ortiz was delivering his invocation, causing newsmen present to exchange meaningful glances. Fr. Ortiz’s phrase — “trembling on the brink of revolution” — may sound a bit poetic, but his invocation also contained the following passage:

“With us into this hall, O God, we bring the growing fears, the dying hopes, the perished longings and expectations of a people who have lost their political innocence; a people who now know … that salvation, political or economic, does not come from above, from any one man or party or foreign ally; that in the last analysis, salvation can only come from below — from the people themselves …”

There are other reasons for the Presidential distaste for Jesuits and Jesuit-influenced laymen. Let us cite them here:

—Mr. Raul S. Manglapus, whom Mr. Marcos tried to win over to his side, unsuccessfully, not too long ago, and whose ideas he does not share. Item: Manglapus’ Decentralization bill, which sought to clip the powers of the Presidency, was opposed by Mr. Marcos. Item: the nationalistic Congressional Economic Planning Office (CEPO), which Mr. Manglapus staunchly supported, was suppressed by Mr. Marcos;

—the National Union of Students (NUSP), headed by an Atenean, Edgar Jopson, and the Young Christian Socialists (YCSP), headed by a Manglapus-influenced Bedan, Ben Maynigo, have been breathing down the Olympian neck of the President;

—A pamphlet by Fr. Vitaliano Gorospe, SJ, entitled “The Morality of Violence and Demonstrations,” which stated that violence on the part of the exploited masses is justifiable as a last resort. Now this may cause concern to those in the Establishment (particularly to those who may have been warned by their seeresses that they will be assassinated by a young man in the guise of a priest), but it is old hat really. It is inscribed in the Catechism books, and even Pope Paul — hardly a revolutionary — is not against it.

—The mysterious figure of one Fr. Jose Blanco, SJ, alleged to have unseated Mr. Sukarno with one fell swoop of his slender arms, and alleged further to have told a CSM seminar: the people better “rise up in arms before others will do it for them.”

In an interview with the Chronicle, Fr. Blanco said he had been misquoted, and that what he had actually stated was “what we need is a revolution of a change of heart… to convert someone to a real Christian, that is the revolution I sell.”

As for the allegations that he had been involved in the student uprising in Indonesia, Fr. Blanco said he had stayed in that country for six years as an English instructor, then had to leave when summoned to be near his ailing father. This slim and tall (for a Filipino) Jesuit is no stranger to controversy. Last year his remarks before another seminar — that Christ is not in the Sacrament but in the heart — were distorted and made to sound “heretical” and “communistic,” leading to a confrontation with the Archbishop of Manila which still has to be resolved satisfactorily.

Jesena and the Sacadas

—The report by Fr. Arsenio C. Jesena, of the Loyola House of Studies, which exposed the miserable conditions of the sacadas in Negros and which alienated President Marcos because his closest political allies belong to the Sugar Bloc.

The exposé opened with this sentence, almost Hemingway-like in its simplicity: “In April 1969 I went down to Negros to live as a sacada among the sacadas.” But as it began to describe in graphic detail the exploitation of the migrant workers under the hands of the hacenderos and the contratistas, the report took on a tone of bitter indictment:

“I saw the injustice of it all, and I began to understand why the Communists are Communists.”

The Jesena disclosures were an outstanding piece of Jesuit enterprise which capped the last year of the decade just over. In its wake came a challenge from the Christian Social Movement to the sugar planters to submit to an investigation. The planters agreed, then resorted to all sorts of delaying tactics. Early last month, impatient NUSP students took to the streets, and one of their demands was the immediate prosecution of sugar planters found violating labor laws.

This time a new task force team was formed, headed by Undersecretary of Labor Raoul Innocentes, and its findings substantially confirmed the Jesena report. From all indications a better deal is in store for the sacadas, thanks to Fr. Jesena and to others like him who in the past tried to secure justice in sugarland. May their tribe increase.

Through the Pages of History

The Society of Jesus was founded in 1540 by Ignatius of Loyola, the soldier-saint — a symbol, to all Ateneans, of manliness and virtue. Under his unwavering tutelage, the vow of obedience became an asset rather than a liability. Jesuit influence spread, and by 1650, 500 colleges had been established on the European continent. “This was the great baroque period when Jesuit drama, ballet, art and music flourished,” notes the contemporary Jesuit poet and writer, John L’Heureux.

It was also the period, he adds, “when the accusations of ‘Jesuit price’ began, the political machinations of court favorites that would finally lead to the suppression of the Jesuit order.” The Jesuits had become a threat to the absolutist monarchs of France, Spain and the two Sicilies. The autocrats banded together and applied pressure on Pope Clement XIV. Accordingly, in 1773 a papal decree outlawed the Society. The reasons have never been clarified to the present day, and the Pontiff’s statement at the time, since then often quoted by historians, said his move was “suggested to Us by the principles of prudence and which We retain concealed in Our breast.”

The Society was restored in 1814, but the old militancy was gone. “Tradition,” says Fr. L’Heureux, “with its safety and its aura of respectability, embalmed the restored Society of Jesus … The spirit was crushed beneath mountains of legislation, and the Jesuits became a group of dedicated and harmless schoolteachers for the sons of the upper middle class.

“When a few years ago change finally came to the Jesuits, it came with a rapidity and a violence which neither they nor the Church was prepared.”

The history of the Jesuits in the Philippines is divided into two, the period of 1581 to 1768 and that of 1859 to the present. The first period is more colorful, and Fr. De la Costa in his voluminous work on the subject, tells of how a Jesuit secured the allegiance of Portuguese Macao to the Spanish crown, and of how a Jesuit represented the conquistadores of the Philippines.

Jesuits were also accredited ambassadors to the sultanates of Mindanao and the Moluccas. They sailed as chaplains in the Spanish ships that fought the Dutch for the sea lanes of Eastern Asia. The epoch of the Jesuits unfolds before a panorama of “sea battles, native customs, Portuguese rivalry, court intrigue, the opening of China, martyrdom and hard work.”

Although the Society was restored in 1814, the Jesuits did not return to the Philippines until 1859 and they, like their colleagues around the world, confined themselves to the schools, to missionary work and scientific study.

The SJs in the ’50s, ’80s

A Jesuit product acquires an extreme consciousness about his background. The feeling can be an ambivalent (accept-reject), one, and perhaps one could quote here the words of an American correspondent, a hardened newsman, to a young Filipino friend: “A Jesuit education is something to be thankful for, but it is also something to be suspicious about.”

Those fortunate (or, in the view of others, unfortunate) enough to receive an Ateneo education are immediately tagged as “Jesuit boys” — in derision or in envy. But you seldom hear the label applied to the products of the Christian Brothers, the Benedictines and the Dominicans. For when an Ateneo boy goes out into the world, he identifies himself with his Jesuit mentors — or rejects them altogether.

—The author studied for seven years under the Jesuits, during the ’50s, and the pleasant memories of that seemingly distant period go hand in hand with the unpleasant ones. Academic standards were maintained at all costs, and often at a heartbreaking cost. One student was not allowed to graduate because he had a grade of 74 in Social Science, and a 71 in Latin. This youth — an orphan whose mother toiled as a teacher so he could get a good education — was only 14 years old, and so the good fathers decided he was not fit to graduate from High School. He was told to repeat the year. His mother refused, and sent him to another college.

Discipline was exerted most during High School because this is the period when the student’s character is being formed. Punishment was swift, and, depending on the gravity of the offense, could come in the form of expulsion, suspension or the Saturday morning “post.” The latter consisted of strenuous calisthenics, forced marches around the campus, the “gripping” session, during which the student gripped his fingers unrelenting, and other devices worthy of the Inquisition. The atmosphere of the school was rigid, spartan.

But in the ’60s, the winds of change blowing throughout the Jesuit world reached our shores, and what a welcome breeze it was. Student dissent was now tolerated, even encouraged. Ateneans began to expand their horizons, and to involve themselves more extensively than before in social and political issues. A more aggressive nationalism reared its head, and the American Rector — “liked as a friend but disliked as a symbol” — resigned. The torch has been passed on to Fr. Ortiz, the second Filipino to become President of the Ateneo.

Extent of Jesuit Involvement in Social Action

The Jesuits run an Institute of Social Order, whose members conduct courses on credit unions, training programs, agricultural projects, family development and research. Complementing the Institute are the smaller like-minded organizations, like the Corps Youth Group of Fr. Blanco and the Mindanao Community Development Center.

In addition there are individual Jesuits who fan out to the barrios, to the slum districts and other underprivileged areas to improve conditions. You will find a Jesuit working with the parish priest of Sapang Palay, coordinating with Maryknoll students in Pansol, a small barrio behind that school, and with Ateneo students in Barranca another small barrio, in Marikina.

The Jesuits have a common ideology calles SPES, which stands for the Social, Political, Economic and Spiritual aspects of Filipino life. Within his field of competence, a Jesuit is expected to promote the common good in these four spheres.

In their drive to give the people a better life, the Jesuits are armed only with their ideas. Perhaps they provoke so much irritation among those in power because to the totalitarian mind, an idea can be just as dangerous as a Molotov cocktail hurled by an agent provocateur.#

Why Did Jesus Come into the World?

Imagine the creator of this vast universe who has all knowledge, all power coming to the ones he created to make himself known to them. Well that’s exactly what took place almost 2,000 years ago. To communicate with us in the best way possible, “God “became flesh,” He became one of the creatures he made, man.

Why did God do this? Because our greatest need is an eternal one. It’s not about what we can gain in this life, in profits or pleasure or making a lasting imprint on this earth. None of these will satisfy our soul. Ours is a spiritual need, one that we were created for, to have fellowship with God and do His will.

Jesus came to earth because he loves us; He came to deliver truth in a world of false beliefs. But the main reason He came to earth was to be the final sacrifice for our sins. The simple reason is because we are not good, some may think they are, but none are as good as they think when compared to God’s standard--Jesus Christ.

His love prompted him to become man to accomplish what only He could, to rescue mankind.  Because we are sinful, in a spiritually wrecked condition we are in need of redemption but could not redeem ourselves. Nothing short than the eternal creator could accomplish this; no man with sin could qualify to redeem us with his life. God would come to earth as man to cleanse the affect of the disease of sin inherited to all humanity. That is what is so amazing about the Bibles story of Jesus. The creator came to earth; God who is perfect, righteous and holy lived among his creatures that are unholy, unrighteous, even those who were enemies of him.

After man was made and given dominion over the earth, Satan, an angelic creature smarter and more powerful came to Eve in the garden to deceive her. Through tempting Eve to disobey God’s command, it resulted in Adam also disobeying God and brought sin to earth. When Adam sinned, it confirmed him and all of us in a change of nature, unholiness. Sin entered into mans nature and spread to the offspring of all people. Because God is holy and righteous he had to judge them for their disobedience. Because God is also holy and righteous and loving He had to do something to reverse the separation of sin that took place to his creatures.

“But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe” (Galatians 3:22).

John 6:38: “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” As a servant, he, the Son came to do the will of the Father. 1 John 4:14: “That the Father sent the Son as the Savior of the world.” God did not send an angel nor a good man, the savior is God who became man. The Bible says, “the grace of God has appeared to all men.” Christ came for all. Christianity is for everyone but not everyone will respond; only those who acknowledge they are sinful. For one to know this they only have to look at God’s standard, his commands and his law to find they have not obeyed them perfectly and have fallen short of keeping them.

Heb 10:7-10 “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come--in the volume of the book it is written of Me--to do Your will, O God.’ “ Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” The sacrifices show that sin tore apart the perfect harmony man once had with God and man.  

Notice that Jesus says the whole of the Old Testament is concentrated on him. God began the sacrificial system with Adam but it was not to continue, it was given temporarily to point to the Messiah, (until he came Gal.3) until the final covenant would be established. These sacrifices were given to show how sinful man is and to cover our sins until the last one took place. He even gave more laws to make it more apparent to man that we are sinful, guilty of disobedience, falling short of keeping his requirements. (Galatians 3:19;

John 8:12 Jesus spoke, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 12:46: “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.” Darkness is representative of sin and judgment. Sin darkens our understanding and ruins our living. That we need one that can show us the way to live, as a light in darkness so we will not stumble. We all know what light is we depend on it today when we are in the dark so we will not stumble. This is why the gospel is associated with light because it shows us our sin and presents the savior. 2 Cor. 4:3: “But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.” Most may not want to think of themselves as in darkness but this is how God looks at them without the truth of knowing Christ.

I John 1:5-6: “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”

The light is His Word and His way, Jesus said, “I am the Way the truth and the life” to come to the Father. To have this life He offers you must accept him as the way and embrace the truth.

John the apostle writes that Jesus “was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.” (John 1:9-10)

The people responded in John 6:42: “Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’? 

Those Jesus lived among were very aware of his claim of not originating from earth though not all believed him. They could not understand it. But they knew he was different from other men.

Jesus explained his purpose for becoming man Luke 19:10: “for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” God came to those who had the most knowledge of him first, those he was working through for centuries, those he entrusted his words to. His intent was to explain himself as being fulfillment of all the rituals and laws He gave them.

Matthew 18:11-12 “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.” What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?”

God uses human shepherds to explain how the chief shepherd would act. This is God’s heart to not lose a single one that is in the fold. He will go far to retrieve the one who leaves. This was his mission, to come to earth and save us. It was for everyone, because everyone is lost. No one is born not lost. This is what sin does, it has the nature of darkness and we become comfortable living in a fallen world. But no one has to live in the world or leave this world the same way.

He did not come as their ruler but as a man who served them so they could understand better how to relate to God. Matthew 20:28 “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” The greatest service one can do is to give their life for another; Jesus gave his life for all, not just a few. Many a soldier has given his life on the battlefield to save his fellow soldier which is the greatest human sacrifice. Jesus gave it for those who were enemies. We were all enemies; even those who are Christian a should not forget this was once their state as well.

Luke 9:56: “For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them.” With simple message encapsulated in love, God the Father sent the Son from heaven to earth to become a man to demonstrate what life is like living in obedience to their creator. Jesus was the perfect example of man having fellowship with his creator, to have joy and live life in its fullest; in purity. It was the way God intended it to be from Adam onward. As we allow Christ to Lord over our lives we are offered peace through trials, harmonious living, and a clean conscience. One day we will have beyond what words can describe, beyond our dreams and imaginations (1 Corinthians 2:9).

God’s message to us through His Only begotten Son John 3:16-17: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John continues in v.19 “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

Evil has been with us since Eve and Adam disobeyed God and ate the fruit from the forbidden tree. It springs from our fallen nature and mankind’s history tells the story and bears witness to this evil that is part of mans living. We were made to be peaceful in the likeness of our creator. In a sinful condition we were born “to be wild,” in the new spiritual birth we were born to have God’s nature of righteousness (I John 2:29).

John 10:10:  “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” This means a changed life from sin to righteousness, the fruit of the Spirit instead of the works of the flesh. These are “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal 5:22-23) Ephesians 5:9: (goodness, righteousness, and truth).

Speaking to Pilate just prior to his crucifixion (John 18:37-38) Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” “You say rightly that I am a king. “For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?”

Many people do not understand when they reject what Jesus says and refuse His way they are siding with Pilate and admitting they do not understand nor want to know truth. Some people believe they already have the truth without Jesus. But Jesus said He is the truth, the truth is found in a person and that person is God’s Son who spoke only truth. No one is born in this world with the truth, one must be reborn spiritually to know this truth (John.3:3-6).

Jesus came to earth because of God's love for all of us; no matter what religion, country or culture we were born into He wants fellowship with us. He wants us to experience the mercy and forgiveness that is needed to make us whole.

1 Timothy 1:15: “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” Paul did not look at himself as holy than any other, but put himself as lower, calling himself the greater of sinners. Understanding he needed to be forgiven just like anyone else. We are all sinners that need the salvation that Jesus paid for.

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9) God’s love holds him back from judgment, he is merciful and does not want to see any perish so He continues to allow his message of forgiveness and reconciliation to him be proclaimed by those who know him. But there is a day coming when this message will not be allowed the freedom it now enjoys.

Many men have tried to find the right way when Jesus said He is the way. They embraced all that was offered but only those who take the one way will find life.

Following rules and regulations of religion is not good news, Jesus said to follow him and explained how.

Christianity is an internal religion because of the indwelling of the Spirit of God in the believer, the spirit of life is given and begins to transform us from the inside. No other religion or way can offer you this because only Christianity deals with the sinfulness of man, which is our spiritual nature.

No other religion can offer this nor can it deliver it because it is the life of God himself.

Only Christianity is based on faith, hope and love. We have Faith to live in a fallen world where things do not often go the way we would like. Yet we can trust God who is watching over us and personally cares for our life. We have Hope for our life today no matter what may happen and hope for our future. Hope that the life to come is going to be more fulfilling and than anything we experienced on earth. We can Love God who gave the ultimate sacrifice in laying down the life of his human body to save us from the penalty of our sins. Now we are able to love Him who we once hated. Because of this new life, love is indwelled in us that we are also able to love people in a greater manner, even those we may not know.

The Lord of Heaven and Earth

I suppose most people in redemptive history have developed a sort of philosophic idea in their minds and hearts of who God is [even atheists]. They may develop these ideas from something they read from somewhere else or from someone they have talked to. They may even claim to develop ideas on their own. For example, a Muslim believes that Allah is God Almighty. A Jehovah’s Witness believes that “Jehovah” is God but apart from the deity of Christ. The Buddhist believes in Karma and many rebirths or an ultimate Nirvana or “spiritual enlightenment” that comes from self-suffering or ascetic performance. The common denominator among most religions is not only man-centered and revolving around religious performance, but the God they claim to be “the true God” has also been molded and shaped into their fashion, as an idol. In this they attempt to free themselves from the law. False doctrine results in false epistemologies and fails to observe depravity of the human soul in its truest sense because it does not acknowledge the only perfect righteousness acceptable by God or the true heinousness of sin.

The Word of God [apart from Allah, the Watchtower and other non-canonized Scriptures] speaks for itself, apart from man. The true Word of God describes not only ultimate authority over man with propositions in the Scriptures, but His complete character is described simultaneously. In other words, not only is the true God the one who commands every man everywhere to repent, but that He also demonstrates His character in exalting His name. How does He exalt His name? He first and foremost does not look to man for affirmation in His exaltation because He is self-sufficient and self-existent. Not only is He perfect in Holiness, which makes Him perfectly righteous, but He is omnipotent, omniscient and unapproachable apart from His Sovereign decrees. He is not only an infinite number of things that man cannot understand with an infinitely wretched, feeble and worm-like mind, but He is simply incomprehensible. As He declares His name to be above all things, He declares not only repentance, but also reminds us that He has made everything the eye can see. He has made heaven and earth, the human body, all animals, the universe and single-celled organisms.

These things are only able to be explained by a human to other humans because God has made them. The fact that God made me reminds me of how he captures the entirety of creation with His Word. He reminds me that He has made heaven and earth, which is everything I can see and beyond my scope of comprehension. At the same time, He declares His own righteousness and that He is infinitely above all things. Because He has caused me to see that He is infinitely above all things, He also causes me to see who other religions acknowledge a great deal, but without reverence. This infinitely incomprehensible Holy God who has made heaven and earth has made Himself knowable in the person of Jesus Christ. He therefore strips any self-exultation of man. He brings him to nothing. He causes all insolent ascetic and non-Christ exalting religions to falter upon the rebellious and man-glorifying epistemologies that end in self-destruction. This God-Man is the very manifestation of God to man in the flesh as He declared Himself to be when He walked this earth. Muhammad never claimed to be God in the flesh. Neither did Gandhi. Jesus did not claim to be a good leader or just a prophet. He claimed to be God. This proclamation ultimately lead to His bloody death on the Cross. His power reverberates in the resurrecting power of the Gospel. The true Messiah claimed to be God. The true Messiah died. The true Messiah also rose again and ascended to the right hand of the Father. The true Messiah, Jesus Christ, came to save sinners who will not and cannot save themselves. The true Messiah is still incomprehensible, majestic, excellent and infinitely glorious beyond all measure. His unfathomable Mercy is heard throughout the land. He humbled Himself to be a man and to wash the feet of His disciples. Yet, He is also the Judge and Lord of Heaven and Earth; the maker of all things.

“But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

SEMIRAMIS and REINCARNATION

INTRODUCTION
The beliefs in both reincarnation and resurrection are very ancient. The satanic doctrine of reincarnation came through a woman, named Semiramis, who claimed that her husband, Nimrod, who had been executed for hideous crimes, was reborn as her son, Tammuz.  This occurred in the forth generation after Noah and the Great Flood (about 4000 years ago). Prior to this God had personally taught Adam and he had 930 years to ponder the Lord’s teaching before he died.  In turn Adam taught his son, Seth, and Seth taught his son Enos, and so on down to Noah.  Then after the Great Flood in the latter years of Noah’s life, Semiramis began teaching reincarnation in Babel. Not long afterwards Job and Abraham were fully knowledgeable and convinced of the Biblical doctrine of resurrection (Job 19:23-27; Genesis 22:1-18; cf. Hebrews 11:17-19).

God’s holy and infallible Word, the King James Bible, soundly refutes reincarnation, and clearly teaches resurrection.  The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the single most important event in human history.  The Lord Jesus Christ’s resurrection proved His claim to be God, and His ability to do everything He promised, including raising both all born again believers in Christ to live eternally in Heaven, and all Christ rejecters to stand at the final Judgement to be cast into the Lake of Fire to be tormented forever and ever.  

Reincarnationists would have us believe the clever satanic lie that Jesus was only one incarnation of the Christ spirit along with Adam, Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed, and others.  But the Bible says that Christ, the second member of Trinity (I John 5:7), the Creator of all things (John 1:1-3) “was made flesh…the only begotten of the Father” (John 1:14).  The Bible further states that “there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (I Timothy 2:5).  “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”  (Acts 4:12; cf. John 14:6)  Adam is not God, Adam was created by God; Buddha is not the “one mediator between God and men,” he didn’t even believe there is a God; Confucius was not “the only begotten of the Father,” but was just a confused humanistic philosopher; and like wise, Mohammed was not the one and only unique God Man, but just another in a long line of antichrists (I John 2:18, 4:1-3; II John 7, 9).  The Bible makes it absolutely clear that the Lord Jesus Christ became flesh only once, and that in order to offer Himself as a blood sacrifice for “the sins of the world” (John 1:14, 29; Hebrews 9:22-10:14; I John 2:2).  Then on the third day after the Lord gave His life for us on the cross he rose from the dead (Acts 2:23-24, 3:13-16, 4:33, 5:30, 10:39-43, 13:26-37; I Corinthians 15:3-7). The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the heart of the Gospel message of salvation (Romans 10:9-10; I Corinthians 15:1-3: I Peter 1:3-5; John 5:21, 6:40).  

The fact of the matter is that our future life is not determined by our good and bad deeds, which one out weighs the other.  That is called karma in the doctrine of reincarnation. In that false system one’s karma (a balance of good and bad deeds) determines his position in his next incarnation.  The fact of the matter is that every individual’s future is determined by what they do with Christ Jesus in this lifetime.  Whoever receives the Lord Jesus in repentance and faith realizing that it was for his sins that the Lord suffered and died will receive the free gift of eternal life and salvation from Hell, but the one who dies without Christ will suffer the eternal fires of Hell forever.  There will be no second, third, and so on chances to keep coming back until he finally gets it right.  “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the Judgement.” (Hebrews 9:27)  


Reincarnation (also called metempsychosis and transmigration) is one of the “doctrines of devils” that the Bible speaks of (I Timothy 4:1)!  In reincarnation salvation comes by works (building up good karma). But God expressly says that salvation is “by grace … through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9; cf. Titus 3:5)  Reincarnation is a fable, and a lie.  There are only two places that people go to when they die:  Heaven or Hell.  There is no purgatory, no rebirth into another body, no annihilation, and no Nirvana.  Those are also fables and “doctrines of devils” that have their roots in reincarnation. The facts in this study will define reincarnation, examine its origin and history, look at the evidence for and against it, and expose it for what it really is, a lie of Satan.

SCRIPTURAL REFUTATION OF REINCARNATION
The Bible has proven itself over and over again to be the trustworthy, infallible, indestructible, inerrant, and holy Word of God.  The many 100% accurate prophecies that have been fulfilled prove the Bible’s accuracy.  Furthermore, scholars have shown that there are mathematical structures in the original language of the Bible which cannot be duplicated by man. This math structure runs in the very words, sentences, and paragraphs of all 66 books of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.  The letters of the Greek and Hebrew alphabets were also used as numbers when the Bible was written.  The supernatural math structure has to do with multiples of the number 7 that run throughout the Bible in the texts of the Hebrew Old Testament, and the Greek New Testament.  Similarly the theme of the Bible, salvation through the blood of Christ, runs throughout, in spite of the fact that it was written over a period of 1500 years by some 40 men.  Other evidences that prove the Bible to be God’s Word are its scientific and historical accuracy, and its supernatural power to change people’s lives.  These and other evidences prove the trustworthiness of the Bible beyond any reasonable doubt.  But in spite of these facts, that any thinking person can examine for himself, some reincarnationists allege “that the parts of the Bible which clearly taught reincarnation were suppressed … by biased ‘editors.’ The ‘editing’ took place allegedly in the [early] Church Councils. … Such beliefs are notable only for their lack of historical integrity. … [I]t would make no difference what [the] … councils decided, because one can go directly to the most ancient texts [which were written before the councils were held].  … The ancient world was so flooded with copies of the New Testament that it was beyond the power of any [council] to expunge … doctrines from them. … [And these] already contained huge amounts of teaching that deny the premise of reincarnation.” [101]  If God can create the Universe, and He did, then He can certainly preserve His Word for all generations.  The Lord Jesus Christ said:  “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35, cf. 5:17-18; I Peter 1:24-25; Psalm 119:89)  God’s indestructible Word preserves for us today every word and every doctrine that He originally delivered to His servants the prophets (II Peter 1:20-21; I Peter 1:10-12).  There are many verses of Scripture, and many doctrines in the Bible that clearly and soundly refute the false doctrine of reincarnation, settling the question once for all.  Here are some of the Scriptures and Bible doctrines that refute reincarnation:

Job 19: 25-27:  Job is the oldest book of the Bible, written not long after the Great Flood.  Job knew that the Lord Jesus Christ would come to this earth in the end times and that he would see the Lord in his own resurrected body, not someone else’s reincarnated body.  This passage says:

“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:  And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:  Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.”

John 3:13:  Reincarnation, if it were true, should have some people that have reached perfection through countless millions of reincarnations. However, Jesus said no one had been to heaven when He spoke to Nicodemus.  When the Lord Jesus was on earth no one had yet been to Heaven, except the Lord Himself.  After His resurrection He took the souls those in Paradise or Abraham’s Bosom to heaven with Him (Luke 16:22-26; Eph 4:7-9).   In John 3:13 the Lord said:

“And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.”

John 3: 3-8:  The Lord Jesus made it unmistakably clear that He was not talking about reincarnation, but spiritual birth when He spoke to Nicodemus.  John 3: 3-8 reads:  

“… Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”
John 9:1-3:  The man born blind was born so not because of his bad karma, but for the glory of God.  John 9:1-3 says:  

“And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.  And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?  Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.”

Hebrews 9:25-26:   The Bible says that Christ “… hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18); and “… we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” (Hebrews 10:10).  Jesus was never reincarnated.  Hebrews 9:25-26 says:

“Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;  For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”

Hebrews 9:27-28:  The Word of God makes it clear that it is appointed unto man once to die and after that he will be judged by God.  Those who have been born twice, physically and spiritually will die only physically; but those who have been born only once will die twice, a second death after his judgment (Revelation 20:11-15).  There is only one death before the judgment.  Hebrews 9:27-28 reads:

“And as it is appointed unto man ONCE to die, But after this the judgment:  So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”

The Doctrine of God:  All religions holding to the false doctrine of reincarnation reject Bible truth concerning the personality and works of God.  Some believe there is a Creator, but that he has no personal attributes like memory, love, anger, and so forth; others believe that nature, rather than God are eternal; others believe it is impossible to know if there is a God; and the most absurd of all, some believe there is no God at all.  The Word of God teaches that:

* God has a mind and memory (Jeremiah 29:11, 31:20; Isaiah 43:25; Hosea 8:13; II Timothy 2:19).  In fact God knows everything (I John 3:20; Isaiah 46:9-10).

* God has a will (Matthew 6:10; Hebrews 10:7, 9; I John 2:17).

* God is a personal spirit (John 4:24; Hebrews 1:3).

* God speaks (Exodus 3:12; Matthew 3:17; Luke 17:6).  

* God sees and hears (Genesis 6:5; Exodus 2:24).

* God loves (Romans 5:5, 8; I John 4:8-10; John 3:16).

* God hates (Proverbs 6:16-19, 8:13; Revelation 2:6, 15).

* God created everything (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-3; Hebrews 11:3; Colossians 1:16; Genesis 1:14-18; Psalm 148:1-5; Isaiah 42:5; Nehemiah 9:6; Genesis 1:11-12, Genesis 1:20-25; Psalm 148:3, 5; Nehemiah 9:6; Colossians 1:16; Genesis 1:26-27, 2:7; Psalm 139:13-16; Isaiah 42:5, 57:16; Zechariah 12:1; Ecclesiastes 12:7; Hebrews 12:9; Isaiah 45:8; Matthew 25:41; John 14:1-6).
   
* God upholds His creation and keeps it in operation (Hebrews 1:3; Colossian 1:17).

* God judges (Exodus 12:12; Romans 3:19; Acts 10:34-43, 17:31; Hebrews 12:23; Ezekiel 18:30; Revelation 20:11-15; Jude 14-15; II Corinthians 5:10).

* That only the fool hath said in his heart, “There is no God.” (Psalm 14:1, 53:1; Romans 1:20-22).

The Doctrine of Christ:  Reincarnationists almost universally deny the Biblical doctrine of Christ.  However the Word of God teaches that Lord Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity, the One True God in three persons: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. All three members of the Trinity are totally one in being, plan, purpose, unity, and essence.  All are coequal in power, holiness, and every attribute.  The holy Trinity is uncreated, without beginning, and eternal.  The Bible says:  “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are One.” (I John 5:7)  All three members of the Trinity are spirit and had no body until “the Word was made flesh” and was born of the virgin Mary (John 1:14, 4:24; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-35).  It was at this point that the Word or Christ became a human being names Jesus (meaning saviour).  This is the main thrust of the doctrine of Christ:  “God was manifest in the flesh.” (I Timothy 3:16). Christ, the Word, was incarnate once, not even twice, but just once.  He was not reincarnate, but “incarnate” (meaning in the flesh).  The Word of God says:

  “[W]hen the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His son [Christ, the Word] made of a woman, made under the Law, to redeem them that were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” (Galatians 4:4-5)  

Christ’s coming into the world had only one main purpose: To provide a perfect and sinless sacrifice who would  offer Himself just once for the salvation of all Hell deserving lost people.  This sacrifice was to satisfy God’s justice, if people would only turn from their sins to Christ and receive the gift of eternal life by faith (I John 3:5; II Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 9:22-10:14; Ephesians 2:8; Romans 3:23-26, 5:1, 8, 6:23; John 3:16).  This was actually done in history, “when the fullness was come,” and it was done “once for all” by Jesus Christ, God incarnate, the only one capable of paying such a price to redeem “whosoever will” believe and receive Him as personal Lord and Saviour.  

This is basically the doctrine of Christ, but contrary to the Word of God on this subject reincarnationists will tell us:

1. “[Christ became aware that he was the Saviour] when He fell, in Eden.” (Edgar Cayce)  This implies that Christ was a reincarnation of Adam.  If this was true, and it isn’t, it would mean Christ was not sinless, but He is (I John 3:5).  

2. “Christ is … the one complete idea of perfect man and divine Mind.  This Christ or perfect man idea existing eternally in divine Mind is the true, spiritual, higher-self of every individual.” (Unity School of Christianity).  That is the oldest satanic lie in the Book!  The Devil told Eve, You are God (Genesis 3:4-5).  

3. “[I]n time all men become christs.” (Theosophy) That’s not the Biblical doctrine of Christ!  The Lord Jesus said that this false teaching would increase in the last days and that we should beware of it when He said, “… Take heed that no man deceive you.  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” (Matthew 24:4-5)

“[Jesus Christ] was a spirit belonging to our human evolution, and so was Gautama Buddha.” (Rosicrucianism) Again, this isn’t the doctrine of Christ! 

Reincarnationists are universally either atheists (believe there is no God), pantheists (believe everything is God), or polytheists (believe there are many gods).  Religions that hold the doctrine of reincarnation all deny the doctrine of Christ.  If you are a born again Christian the Word of God says:

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.” (1 John 4:1-3)

“Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.  Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.  If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:  For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.” (2 John 8-11)

This does not mean that we do not witness to these precious people for whom Christ Jesus died.  It does mean that the child is not to receive the teachers or teachings of these antichrist religions.

Collaboration between sorcerers and demons
